Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Coach?
At One Hope Academy, our teachers are called Academic Coaches because their role goes beyond delivering lessons.
Academic Coaches guide, support, and mentor students as they grow academically and personally. They help each learner progress through core subjects, provide small-group or individual support when needed, and encourage students to take ownership of their learning.
More than anything, Academic Coaches build strong relationships with students—helping them develop confidence, curiosity, resilience, and the skills they need to succeed both in school and in life.
What is the typical class size?
Each class is intentionally capped at 15 students to ensure a personalized and focused learning experience. This small class size allows our Coaches to provide meaningful one-on-one support, build strong relationships with each student, and tailor instruction to individual learning needs. With fewer students, there’s more time for mentorship, deeper engagement, and a stronger sense of community.
How do we keep kids safe online?
We pair strong technology safeguards with intentional digital citizenship instruction—and we keep usage purposeful across the whole day.
Technology safeguards (behind the scenes):
-
Enterprise firewall + content filtering on student networks to block malware, phishing, VPN/proxy bypass, and age-inappropriate content; SafeSearch and YouTube Restricted Mode enforced.
-
DNS threat protection that auto-blocks known risky domains and emerging threats.
-
Separate networks for students, staff, and guests; personal devices use guest Wi-Fi only.
-
Device management (MDM) on school-managed devices with approved apps, restricted permissions, and remote lock/wipe if needed.
-
Least-privilege student accounts and MFA for staff, with encrypted storage and regular security patching.
-
Coach visibility into learning platforms so we can quickly redirect unsafe or off-task behavior.
Digital citizenship & responsible AI (what we teach):
-
Privacy, consent, passwords, and what’s appropriate to share online.
-
Copyright, attribution, and avoiding plagiarism (how to cite sources and media).
-
Responsible AI use: prompt well, check for bias, fact-check outputs, cite AI assistance, and never upload personal/sensitive info.
-
What to do if something unsafe appears: pause, report, and get help.
Purposeful use & human oversight:
-
Screens are used across the day for targeted purposes—personalized practice, research and writing, media production/editing, coding, design, and creation—balanced with hands-on, off-screen learning.
-
Small class sizes (capped at 15) enable active supervision, timely feedback, and coaching of healthy tech habits.
This combination keeps access appropriate, learning focused, and students steadily growing into thoughtful, safe digital citizens.
What is a brain break?
At OHA, we use short, focused learning sprints followed by brief breaks—a structure you’ll see right in our schedule (morning learning segments with built-in recess and breaks). This keeps brains fresh and helps students return ready to do their best thinking.
What if my child has a learning disability?
We’re committed to supporting all learners. Our individualized instruction naturally aligns with many common classroom accommodations, such as focused work time, flexible pacing, and built-in breaks—all of which are integrated into our day through the Pomodoro Method. We also welcome collaboration with outside therapists or professionals and are happy to accommodate on-site support to ensure your child’s success. At One Hope Academy, every child is met where they are—and encouraged to thrive.
